Advance Democracy, Inc. (ADI) is an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization that conducts public-interest research & investigations around the world to improve accountability, transparency, and good governance. The organization has conducted investigations into Russian interference of European Parliament elections in 2019 and has also investigated the messaging of populist parties and organizations in that election as well. The organization has also investigated the dissemination of the QAnon conspiracy theory and social media messaging in the 2020 U.S. Presidential elections.

Advancement Project is a next generation, multi-racial civil rights organization. Rooted in the great human rights struggles for equality and justice, they exist to fulfill America’s promise of a caring, inclusive and just democracy. They use innovative tools and strategies to strengthen social movements and achieve high-impact policy change. They envision a future where people of color are free – where they can thrive, be safe and exercise power. Driven by the genius of ordinary people and their movements, racism will no longer exist and justice will be radically transformed.

Rampant information disorder—misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech—threatens progress on justice and equity, effective governance, climate action, health, and many other societal goals. Information disorder also impedes collective problem-solving and compromises social cohesion.

The Skoll Foundation supports social innovations that build resilience to information disorder, bolster trusted information sources, and realign the incentives of technology platforms to better serve democratic values and the public good.

The Starling Lab is an academic research lab innovating with the latest cryptographic methods and decentralized web protocols to meet the technical and ethical challenges of establishing trust in our most sensitive digital records. Starling uses open-source tools, best practices, and case studies to securely capture, store and verify digital content. With applications across news media, historical preservation and legal accountability, the potential use cases for the Starling Framework are numerous.
